The Market Cross under the glass canopy and seen from the east (105°).

This is the most famous cross in Kells. It's been moved to this position recently, as it once stood in the centre of the town where it represented a danger to motorists, and it's been placed under a glass canopy to preserve it from further damage and wear, even though, maybe, it's a little too late.
The cross is richly decorated with scenes from the Bible and even the base carries nice carvings of hunting scenes.
The cross is 2.61 metres tall, 53 centimetres wide and 35 centimetres thick. The arms are 1.61 metres wide.
The stone base is 93 centimetres high.

We saw this cross before on December 11th, 1995 and on June 15th, 2001.
