The beautiful inner face of the south window.

This small 12th century church is to the northwest of the Ardfert Cathedral. Its name, Temple na Hoe, means Church of the young Virgin.
It has a two-order Romanesque doorway in the east (80°) wall with spiral bosses around the first order. A large archway is in the west wall. It's decorated with chevron decorations around the inner side. Above this archway is a triangular tympanum without decoration. The top part of this gable is missing.
A moulding decorated with spiral bosses designs a crown around the top of the side walls and once supported the roof.
The interior of this small church is plain apart from a round-headed south window beautifully decorated with floral patterns both inside and outside, though the internal decoration is much more beautiful. The inner side of the window is also slightly splayed.
The church is aligned to the east (80°).

It was a very cold day when we came here and we felt quite uncomfortable with the wind, so the visit to the church was a little shorter and hastier than we would have liked.

We came here for the first time on May 14th, 2002.
