From the northwest. The machicolation is visible above the entrance.

In Dalkey there were seven castles. Today only two of them survive. Both are on Castle Street. One of them is the Goat Castle, today known as Dalkey castle, Heritage Centre and Town Hall.
The other castle, featured in this page, is the Archibold's Castle that dates from the 15th or 16th century. Probably it was in the property of the Dungan family, but in the 18th century it was rented by the Archibold family.
It's a tower house that is three storeys high, and measures 9 metres by 5 metres in plan. The entrance is on the west (280°) side. Above it there is a machicolation. The second floor was the main room of the castle and had a fireplace and a toilet.
