Three orthostats in the northeast quarter of the ring cairn.

Dun Ruadh is an unusual cairn in such that it is a ring cairn. This means that the outer structure describes a ring and the inner area is clear of cairn stones.
In fact the inner area includes a stone circle, and this adds magic to the astonishment.
The monument stands on the south slope of Crockyneill Hill.
The ring cairn has an inner diameter of 9 metres on the east-west axis, the ring wall is about 5.50 metres thick, thus giving a total diameter of about 20 metres.
The circle inside is made of 17 upright stones. The inner area was the site for several burials, especially in kists. Two of these kists are still clearly visible on the north (0°) side and on the southeast (140°) side.
A tree has grown in the centre of the stone circle, half of it has grown horizontally and covers the west portion of the ring cairn.
An opening to the inner area is present on the southwest side.
The farmer of this land was very kind to take us to the monument!
