This memorial is at the end of a 25 metres long path. It's a stone and mortar square pillar with a squat pyramidal cap which has a plan of 2.45 metres and a total height of 4.40 metres.
On its north (355°) side there's a niche that houses a plaque measuring 50 centimetres of width and 61 centimetres of height with an inscription that reads: "God be mercifull unto the soul of Edmund Hopkins and his family He dyed the eight of June Anno DNI 1686".
The place is also known with the name Leacht Chuimhne An Mharcaigh, suggesting that Edmund Hopkins was a horseman.
The day we were here was June 8th, 2014, the 328th anniversary of his death. Weird coincidence!
